PUBLISHER’S SUMMARY: It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he'd fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town's Baptist minister. A quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out. Landon never would have dreamed of it. Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter's life would never be the same. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood.

MY THOUGHTS: I really wasn’t sure what to expect with this audiobook. The summary sounded good, but I had always thought Nicholas Sparks to be a romance writer. “A Walk to Remember” is a short audiobook though, so I figured I didn’t have much to lose.
Not to worry, I liked “A Walk to Remember” right from the start. I found Nicholas Sparks’ writing to be engaging and funny at times, and having been a high school boy myself once upon a time, I identified immediately with Landon Carter. “A Walk to Remember” is not a romance novel, it is about love, and faith, and finding your place in a world that can be harsh at times.

NARRATOR: Okay, the main reason I picked up this audiobook was that it was narrated by Frank Muller. I’ll listen to anything this guy reads. Nicholas Sparks’ dry wit was helped along a great deal by Frank Muller’s tongue-in-cheek style.

FINAL WORD: Sometimes you just have to take a step back and look at the world from a different angle. “A Walk to Remember” is one of those audiobooks that can help you do that. Give it a try, you might just like it.

FILM ADAPTATION: “A Walk to Remember” was adapted to film in 2002 and starred Shane West and Mandy Moore. I’ve never seen this one so I can’t say if it’s any good or not. The film was budgeted at $11 million and grossed about $47 million, so I guess that’s not too shabby.
