THE GIST: Some twenty years have passed since Peter’s adventure in the kingdom of Rundoon. During that adventure, Peter and the Star Catchers once again stopped the Others from capturing the star stuff, and the Shadow Thieves, the real masterminds behind the Others, were destroyed once and for all. Or were they?

A famous architect, von Shatten, was excavating the Egyptian tomb where the Shadow Thieves lived, and when he came out again he had become very strange indeed. In the years hence, he has allied himself with a grotesquely thin man called the Skeleton. Now von Shatten and the Skeleton have a mission. There is only one cache of star stuff left on earth, a stockpile gradually stored away by the Star Catchers over the centuries. Von Shatten has learned the location of the cache, and he knows the secret of opening the hidden vault in which it is stored.

Peter’s best friend, James, who is now grown up and working at Scotland Yard, has uncovered von Shatten’s plot. James reveals what he knows to Molly, now married with three children, but then disappears without a trace. Molly grudgingly decides to go to her father, the now elderly and ailing Lord Astor, for advice, but before she can, she too disappears. In fact, it seems that everyone who knew of the Shadow Thieves existence all those years ago, is gradually vanishing. The only person left who knows what is happening is Molly's daughter, Wendy. Wendy knows that the only hope is to get to Mollusk Island and enlist the aid of Peter.

THE AUTHOR: Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson are members of the rock band “The Rock Bottom Remainders”, along with Stephen King, Mitch Albom, Matt Groening, and a host of other published writers whose hobby is music. The band, whose motto is “We play music as well as Metallica writes novels”, donates all of their proceeds to charity.

NARRATOR: Jim Dale is the only reason I read “Peter and the Sword of Mercy.” I’ve never even read the original Peter Pan story and this series was totally under my radar. Jim Dale brings characters to life like no other audio book narrator I have heard.

DEEP THOUGHTS: “Peter and the Sword of Mercy” is the fourth audio book in Dave Barry’s "Star Catchers” series. From what I’ve heard, there will be one more audio book, “Bridge to Neverland" which is already in the works.

Yeah, “Peter and the sword of Mercy” was written for younger readers, but I still think it was a fun audio book just like the first three Star Catchers books. Sometimes it’s nice to relax with a book that doesn’t make you think too much.
