Audiobook Heaven Mailbag #11

Audiobook Reviews from Audiobook Heaven

Hello boys and girls! Here it is October already. Next thing you know, it will be Halloween! Here at the Audiobook-Heaven worldwide headquarters, we’re already making our Halloween preparations. You know, setting up the old haunted barn, building the fake cemetery out front, preparing lots of sweet treats for all the little tricksters, that kind of thing. It’s a pretty fun time of year.
But before I can attend to all my ghoulish duties, I have to check out the old Audiobook-Heaven Mailbag to see what new audiobooks came in this week. Ohboyohboyohboy, I hope the mailbag is full of treats and not tricks! Let’s take alook!

From L A Theatre Works we have:

Death of a Salesman

by Arthur Miller, performed by a full cast
Stacy Keach and Jane Kaczmarek star in this 1949 masterpiece by Arthur Miller, a searing portrait of the physical, emotional, and psychological costs of the American dream. Willy Loman (Keach) is the play's iconic traveling salesman, whose family is torn apart by his desperate obsession with greatness and social acceptance. As his two sons cast about aimlessly for their station in life, Willy begins to come unraveled when the reality of his life threatens his long-cherished illusions.

Julius Caesar

by William Shakespeare, performed by a full cast
Richard Dreyfuss, Kelsey Grammer and Stacy Keach star in one of Shakespeare's most revered tragedies. The skies over ancient Rome blaze with terrifying portents, and soothsayers warn Julius Caesar of approaching doom. As conspiracy swirls through the city, Shakespeare explores the deep repercussions of political murder on the human heart. A classic tale of duplicity, betrayal and murder, masterfully performed by an all-star, all-American cast in this BBC co-production.

Macbeth

by William Shakespeare, performed by a full cast
Infamously known as the cursed Scottish play, Macbeth is perhaps Shakespeare’s darkest tragedy. When General Macbeth is foretold by three witches that he will one day be King of Scotland, Lady Macbeth convinces him to get rid of anyone who could stand in his way – including committing regicide. As Macbeth ascends to the throne through bloody murder, he becomes a tyrant consumed by fear and paranoia.

And from Atlanta Radio Theatre Company, we have:

Rory Rammer, SpaceMarshal: Volume 1

by Ron N Butler, performed by a full cast
Come away with us now to the far off future days of AD 1985, after men have landed on the moon! When Space Marshal Rory Rammer, and his sidekick, "Skip" Sagan, guard the rule of law and the rights of the innocent from the skies of Earth to the orbit of the moon!
A longtime fan favorite series comes to audio with five thrilling episodes. Hear our intrepid Marshal and his eager young Cadet as they navigate the inner solar system in their rocket ship, the Silver Star, matching wits with space pirates, a mad French scientist, a bloodsucking alien from beyond our galaxy, an asteroid miner, and...a television production company. This is a multi-cast, fully soundscaped production of immersive audio drama.

The Passion of Frankenstein

by Thomas E Fuller, performed by a full cast
Schloss Frankenstein is haunted by a monster. Through countless movies and one immortal book, he has stalked its halls and hidden passages. And the Hero has always arisen to protect the Maiden from the Monster's misdirected love.
But Darkness can hide heroes, and monsters can walk in the light.
And sometimes not even the Maiden can tell them apart.

The Brides of Dracula

by Thomas E Fuller, performed by a full cast
The darker side of vampires....
In a moonlit garden, three women with disturbing smiles wait. Their eyes gleam like opals, and the only color in the silver night is the red of their lips. They long for what they wait for.
And what they wait for comes quickly.
"Bid me enter."
Here is an unsettling retelling of the Bram Stoker classic from a different point of view. This isn't your parents' Dracula.
This is a full-cast, soundscaped audio dramatization.

Wow, some classic live theatre productions! Well, it’s about time we classed up this joint a bit. And it sounds like a couple of those will be just perfect for our Halloween celebrations.
