It’s the greatest show on earth! Just imagine, a theme park featuring real live dinosaurs. Billionaire John Hammond did more than just imagine it, he made it a reality. Using dinosaur DNA found in prehistoric mosquitos trapped in amber, he grew actual dinosaurs and put them on his tropical island resort. Welcome to Jurassic Park!
Hammond spared no expense on Jurassic Park, but how could he have known everything would go so terribly wrong. His main computer programmer turns out to be an industrial spy, a hurricane hits during his first test run, and the dinosaurs break out of their habitats when the power goes down. This will not make his investors happy at all.
It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 20 years since this dino-sized mega-thriller hit theatres. Golden boy Steven Spielberg really outdid himself on this one. Add to that a fantastic musical score by another golden boy, John Williams, and you’ve got yourself a winner. Jurassic Park had a tyrannosaurical budget of $63 million, but that’s chump change considering the more than $900 million it has earned. And hey, it wasn’t a bad book either.

Title: Jurassic Park 2 – The Lost World
Starring: Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore
Narrator: uncredited
Running time: 129 minutes
Released in: 1997
Genre: science fiction

Billionaire John Hammond’s Jurassic Park was a bust before the park even opened to the general public. But you can’t keep a good billionaire down. Hammond had a backup island, called simply Site B, which was the real storehouse behind Jurassic Park. This is where the laboratories are that actually created and hatched the dinosaurs for the park, and for the last four years, Hammond has managed to keep it a secret so it couldn’t be shut down.
Now, however, Hammond’s company, InGen, has finally been wrested from his control, and a group of hunters is going there to capture some live dinosaurs and bring them out, all in the name of profit. Hammond sends in a team of his own to film and document the island’s natural state before it can be overrun and ruined.
This movie wasn’t very good. The plot was thin and just didn’t make very much sense. The book made sense when I read it, but that was a few years ago and I don’t remember all of it. Well, they made more than $600 million so who cares if it was any good.

Title: Jurassic Park 3
Starring: Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Tea Leoni
Narrator: Miles Neth
Running time: 92 minutes
Released in: 2001
Genre: science fiction

The island of Isla Sorna, also known as Site B, has been left alone for several years now. In fact, the government of Costa Rica has made the entire island off limits, even declaring the skies above it a no-fly zone. But thrill seekers will always find a way. A small outfit calling itself Dino-Soar is offering para-sailing tours from boats off the island’s coast. During one of these, a young boy and his guide end up crash landing on the island when their para-sail breaks free. The boy’s parents will stop at nothing to reach the island and rescue their son, and who better to act as their guide than Alan Grant, one of the first visitors to Jurassic Park so many years ago.
Ho-hum. I really could have done without this movie. How many times can you watch a group of people being chased around by dinosaurs and still get a thrill out of it? Jurassic Park 3 really didn’t offer anything original or interesting, much like Jurassic Park 2.
