PUBLISHER’S SUMMARY:
Dear Listener,
Nobody in their right minds would listen to this particular audiobook about the lives of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire on purpose, because each dismal moment of their stay at the village of V.F.D. has been faithfully and dreadfully recorded on this program.
I can think of no reason why anyone would want to listen to an audiobook containing such unpleasant matter as migrating crows, an angry mob, a newspaper headline, the Duluxe Cell, and some very strange hats.
It is my solemn and sacred occupation to research each detail of the Baudelaire children's lives and write them all down, but you may decide to do some other sacred and solemn thing, such as listening to another audiobook instead.
With all due respect,
Lemony Snicket

Dedication: For Beatrice: When we were together, I felt breathless. Now, you are.
MY THOUGHTS: “It takes a village to raise a child” is the premise of this seventh chapter in the unfortunate lives of the Baudelaire orphans, where Violet, Klaus, and Sunny find themselves under the guardianship of the village of VFD. But, as bad luck would have it, The orphans find that this is not an ideal situation, since the people of VFD require the children to do the chores for everyone in the village. On top of this dismal duty, the Baudelaires soon discover that Duncan and Isadora, the Quagmire triplets, are also being held captive in VFD by that miserable miser Count Olaf. Will the unlucky siblings be able to clean up after an enormous murder of crows and discover the location of the Quagmires?
With each subsequent audiobook in the series, you can sort of sense Lemony Snicket becoming more and more familiar and comfortable with the characters he has created. He continues to come up with inventive new ways to display the unique talents of each Baudelaire orphan, and “The Vile Village” even has a little mystery with clever riddles as clues to the solution.
LEMONY SNIPPET: Just about everything in this world is easier said than done, with the exception of ‘systematically assisting Sisyphus’s stealthy, syst-susceptible sister,’ which is easier done than said.
NARRATOR: In addition to being an accomplished Broadway and Hollywood star, Tim Curry has also been featured in quite a few television shows. Some of his television credits include episodes of “Wiseguy”, “Roseanne”, “Tales From the Crypt”, “Will and Grace”, and “Criminal Minds.”
In 1981, Tim Curry hosted an episode of “Saturday Night Live.” In one of the skits, Curry and Meat Loaf ran a “Rocky Horror Picture Show” memorabilia store. As I mentioned before, Tim Curry starred in that Broadway musical, and I think he was also in the film version.
FINAL WORD: As you have probably noticed by now, I am enjoying “A Series of Unfortunate Events” quite a bit. Lemony Snicket is a clever and amusing writer.
