The word "carnivorous", which appears in the title of this audiobook, means "meat-eating", and once you have read such a bloodthirsty word, there is no reason to read any further. This carnivorous volume contains such a distressing story that consuming any of its contents would be far more stomach-turning than even the most imbalanced meal.
It would be best if I didn't mention any of the unnerving ingredients of this story, particularly a confusing map, an ambidextrous person, an unruly crowd, a wooden plank, and Chabo the Wolf Baby.
To avoid causing discomfort, your time might be better filled with something more palatable, such as eating your vegetables, or feeding them to someone else.

MY THOUGHTS: Things just keep getting worse and worse for the poor Baudelaire orphans. That cunning creep Count Olaf has managed to frame the unlucky kids for murder and arson, and now it has become too dangerous for them to even show their faces. That’s why Violet, Klaus, and Sunny had to disguise themselves as freaks, and join a carnival. The last laugh might be on Olaf, however, since this gives the children the perfect opportunity to infiltrate Count Olaf’s inner circle and discover his plans. But in order to do so, they will have to avoid being thrown into a pit full of hungry lions!
Prepare to whet your appetite as the Baudelaire orphans discover more clues about the mysterious VFD, and the possibility of one of their parents still being alive in “The Carnivorous Carnival.” And Chabo the Wolf-baby is just too cute for words.
LEMONY SNIPPET: Miracles are like meatballs because nobody knows what they are made of, where they came from, or how often they should appear.
NARRATOR: Tim Curry is rather a good audiobook narrator. He sounds very natural when he reads, has a pleasant sounding voice, and uses different voices for the different characters.
In addition to being an award-winning broadway actor, Tim Curry has been in many Hollywood films. His credits include Pennywise the clown in Stephen King’s “It”, Long John Silver in “Muppet Treasure Island”, and Gomez Addams in “Addam’s Family Reunion.” He has also had roles in the films “The Hunt For Red October” and “Charlie’s Angels”, along with many, many others.
SPECIAL FEATURES: Is Lemony Snicket developing a social conscience? One of the major themes of “The Carnivorous Carnival” is that you shouldn’t judge someone by their appearance. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny join the carnival by disguising themselves as freaks, and they learn first-hand how it feels to be treated differently. This is a great lesson for young and old readers alike, and Lemony Snicket did a good job of illustrating the point.
FINAL WORD: Eek! I can’t look. Will someone please tell me if the orphans survived the hungry lions?
