THE GIST: Stephen King’s 2002 anthology, “Everything’s Eventual”, had a total of 14 stories. The four stories collected in this audiobook release represent the best of the bunch, so kudos to whoever chose them. Having said that, you’d have to be pretty silly to buy “The Man In The Black Suit, 4 Dark Tales” because Recorded Books published a collection containing these same four stories, plus one more. Strange but true. All together, there are no less than five audiobook releases containing stories from “Everything’s Eventual.” Links to my audiobook reviews for all 5 are below.

HIGHLIGHTS:
“The Man In The Black Suit”
narrated by John Cullum
While fishing at the river one day, a young boy dozes off in the warm summer sunlight. He awakes sometime later to find a strange man in an immaculate three-piece suit watching him. It doesn’t take Gary long to figure out that this well-dressed man is none other than the devil himself, and that his immortal soul is in peril.
“The Man In The Black Suit” was originally published in the October 31, 1994 issue of The New Yorker magazine. In 1995 it won the World Fantasy Award, and the O Henry award for best short fiction.

“The Death of Jack Hamilton”
narrated by Arliss Howard
This is a story of the John Dillinger gang. One of the gang members tells of how another member of the gang was shot during a get-away, and how the gang spent the next several days holed up in Chicago as the man slowly dies.
Frankly, I didn’t get this story. It’s not particularly interesting on the surface, and the deeper meaning eludes me. The only thing I liked about this story was when one of the characters lassos several flies with lengths of thread, and lets them fly around at the ends of their strings.

  1. Just in time for Halloween! Nothing like a good dark story to get that fear brewing.

"What's that?" she says listening for the sounds creeping in from outside.
"What? I don't see anything!" Master Stormcrow whispers.

    ha ha ha..Happy Halloween...
