PUBLISHER’S SUMMARY: A masterpiece of rebellion and imprisonment, where war is peace, freedom is slavery, and Big Brother is watching...
Thought Police. Big Brother. Orwellian. These words have entered our vocabulary because of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel, 1984. The story of one man’s nightmare odyssey as he pursues a forbidden love affair through a world ruled by warring states and a power structure that controls not only information but also individual thought and memory, 1984 is a prophetic, haunting tale.
More relevant than ever before, 1984 exposes the worst crimes imaginable — the destruction of truth, freedom, and individuality.

MY THOUGHTS: That George Orwell really knows how to scare the pants off a person. He wrote about angered animals revolting and taking over a farm, and now it’s an all-encompassing, all-powerful government that controls every facet of its constituents’ lives, right down to their very thoughts.

“1984” follows the life of Winston Smith as he struggles to conform. We get a first-hand look at the fear and distrust that rules his every thought and action. Reading “1984" will definitely help you to appreciate your own situation, no matter how bad it may seem. Big Brother is watching!

NARRATOR: Frank Muller is one of my very favorite audiobook narrators, and a perfect fit for “1984.” His grit and solemnity serve to augment the funerary feel of the audiobook.

FINAL WORD: I think everyone should read “1984” at least once, if only to remind oneself of how things might have been, if history had turned out just a little bit different. And any audiobook narrated by Frank Muller is worth a listen.
