PUBLISHER’S SUMMARY: The planet Lusitania is home to three sentient species: a large colony of humans; the Pequeninos; and the Hive Queen, who was brought there by Ender Wiggin. Once again, the enemy (the Starways Congress) has gathered a fleet and is threatening to destroy Lusitania. Ender's oldest friend, Jane, an evolved computer intelligence, is trying to save the three sentient species of Lusitania, but the Starways Congress is destroying the computer world she lives in.

MY THOUGHTS: “Children of the Mind” is the fourth and final audiobook of Orson Scott Card’s Ender Wiggin series. Actually, Card did write some ore books from this universe, but this audiobook marks the end of the story line that began with “Ender’s Game.”

Orson Scott Card kept us hanging throughout the series, wondering if the Pequeninos, the Buggers, and the spontaneous new life-form calling itself Jane, would survive, but he wrapped it all up very neatly in “Children of the Mind.” Orson Scott Card has some valuable things to say in this audiobook about not being too quick to judge things and situations that we do not fully understand.

NARRATOR: Hooray! In my audiobook reviews for the first three audiobooks of Orson Scott Card’s Ender Wiggin series, I criticized the publisher for not mentioning the names of the narrators in the recording. “Children of the Mind” was done by a different publisher, Audio Renaissance, and all of the narrators were named. They are: Gabrielle De Cuir, John Rubinstein, David birney, Scott Brick, Amanda Karr, and Stefan Rudnicki. As in the first three audiobooks of the series, the narrators did a good job. I especially like Gabrielle DeCuir and Stefan Rudnicki, although Rudnicki’s involvement was minimal this time.

FINAL WORD: Orson Scott Card’s Ender Wiggin series is a must for science fiction fans. I found “Children of the Mind” to be my second favorite audiobook of the series.

  1. You make sci-fi interesting. I've never been a sci-fi fan, as I don't like romance novels and other such crazy spun tales, but this series of stories actually sounds interesting.

Maybe you'll make a sci-fi fan out of me yet!

    Great review!
